Umm, look below...
Cate Blanchett at the Australian Center for the Moving Image. Here's the lovely Cate Blanchett in a bulky, granny squared, one-shoulder dress.
Really unflattering *sigh*.
Up close, the yarn seems that it could be lovely, but not all those colors together. The black flounce thing on the neckline and hem, doesn't help in any way.
It could be fixed though. Work with me.
Picture a strapless dress, using only 2 or 3 colors like grey, white and black or grey, pink and black for a splash of color. Then making the squares look triangular around the waistline would make it look more body conscious.
If all else fails, this dress could make a cute purse. What do you think?

Sorry, but I don't think any color scheme in the world could have rescued that. And Kate seems to have the kind of smile on her face that says, "OK, I'm going to be a good sport and get through this." IMHO, a granny square looks good only in a blanket.
ReplyDeleteWow, that looks like it belongs on my grandmother's couch, on top of the plastic sofa protector! But I'm sure you could work a totally hot version of it (different colors, motifs, etc). I'd say, go for it! :)
ReplyDeleteI do have a blanket like that! And I would be surprised if anything could rescue that dress. (Doesn't she have a stylist?) But if anyone could rescue it, you could : ))
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see your version of this dress. Sorry, Cate, this one sure is ugly!
